How to Create and Publish a Blog Post in WordPress
In this guide, we’ll walk you through creating a blog post from scratch, including how to select the post category, tags, and post format.
Adding a New Post:
If you’re a beginner, one of the first things you’ll need to learn is how to create a WordPress post. Adding content to your website is done by publishing posts.
- From the dashboard, click on Posts → Add New.
- Enter a title for your blog post in the designated field.
Editing Your Content:
Create your blog post in the main content editor. WordPress provides a user-friendly, distraction-free environment for you to write, edit, and format your content.
If you’re using Elementor to create your content, follow these steps:
- Click the Edit with Elementor button at the top of the editor.
- Drag and drop text elements onto your canvas to add your blog content. You can also use widgets to add images, videos, buttons, and more.
- Once satisfied with your content, click Update in the bottom left corner of the Elementor editor to save your changes.
Use Pre-Designed Templates:
To speed up your workflow, you can use Keystone Themes’ Template Library. This feature lets you add pre-designed templates to your blog posts, helping you create visually appealing layouts without starting from scratch.
Selecting a Post Category:
- On the right-hand side of the editor, find the Categories box.
- Click Add New Category if your desired category doesn’t exist.
- Select an existing category or create a new one by typing the category name and clicking Add New Category.
Assigning categories helps organize your posts, making it easier for readers to find related content.
Adding Tags:
Tags are keywords or phrases that describe your post in more detail. To add tags:
- In the Tags box on the right, type relevant keywords separated by commas.
- Press Enter after each tag to add it.
Tags improve the searchability of your post, making it more discoverable to readers interested in specific topics.
Choosing a Post Format:
WordPress offers various post formats like standard, gallery, video, and audio.
- Find the Post Format box on the right side.
- Click the dropdown menu and select the appropriate format for your post.
Post formats allow you to present your content in different styles, enhancing the visual appeal of your blog.
Previewing and Publishing Your Blog Post:
Before publishing, click the Preview button to see how your post will appear to readers. If satisfied, click the Publish button at the top right to make your post live.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully created a blog post in WordPress, complete with categories and tags. Remember, the key to engaging content is consistency and relevance. Happy blogging!
